Hey travelers,
I’m Kelsey, and I plan trips for a living. Not the kind you piece together at midnight with thirty tabs open, but the kind where someone who knows the terrain quietly handles the details so the good parts are all that’s left.
Worth the Detour is where I share the thinking. Every issue starts with a place everyone’s already heading toward, the one your feed keeps showing you, and points you to the quieter, better choice sitting right beside it. Same region, fewer crowds, more of what made you want to go in the first place. It’s meant as inspiration, not a checklist.
And when one of these lands and you’d actually like to go, I can take it from there. Booking the trip is the part I do, often with perks that come at no extra cost to you: a room upgrade when there’s one to be had, breakfast on the house, a credit waiting at check-in. No pressure either way. Read along for the ideas, reach out when you’re ready, and let me make the next one easier.
I’m so glad you’re here.

What this newsletter is
Every issue does one thing: it takes the obvious, crowded place and points you toward the quieter, better one sitting right next to it.
You know the spots. The ones your feed serves up on repeat, where the photo looks incredible and the reality is a forty-minute line and a view you’re sharing with three hundred strangers. There’s almost always a place a short drive away that gives you the same landscape, the same light, the same reason you wanted to go, with room to actually breathe it in.
That’s the swap. Same region you were already dreaming about, fewer crowds, more of the thing itself.
This isn’t a to-do list, and it’s not a ranking of the fifty places you have to see before you turn forty. It’s a steady stream of ideas, the kind worth saving for later, so that when you do plan a trip, you already know where the good version is.
Who it’s for
If you travel, this is for you.
Close friends and family who already trust me with the good stuff. Busy professionals who love a great trip and have zero hours to research one. Seasoned travelers who’ve seen the famous places and are quietly looking for what’s next. Younger folks plotting a honeymoon, a milestone birthday, a first big trip together.
I write one letter for all of you, because the instinct underneath is the same. You want your travel to feel a little easier and a little more special than it would if you did it all yourself. That’s the whole audience, and you’re welcome here no matter where you are on that list.
What you’ll get in each issue
I keep these short and easy to read in a single sitting. Here’s the shape of one:
A “Hey travelers” hello. A quick, friendly note from me before we get into it.
The main letter. This issue’s swap, the crowded place and the better one beside it, with enough detail to picture yourself there.
One rotating note. This changes issue to issue. Sometimes it’s a peek at a trip I just put together for someone, sometimes a practical tip that’ll save you a headache, sometimes just a place or detail I can’t stop thinking about.
One “worth packing” pick. A single thing I’d actually bring, the kind of small upgrade that makes a trip smoother.
A warm close. A short sign-off, and an open door if you ever want to take an idea further.
Biweekly. Short and steady, never a flood.
Who’s behind it
I’m Kelsey, the person behind Gold Dust Travel, a boutique travel advisor.
What that means in practice: I don’t just write about trips, I book them. I work as a Fora Pro, which gives me access to relationships and rates that are hard to find on your own, and I plan everything from a single hotel stay to a full multi-week itinerary. It’s real planning, done by an actual person who’s paying attention to the details you’d rather not think about.
The newsletter is the inspiration. The planning is the work I love. You can see how I work and what I offer at Gold Dust Travel.
Want me to plan your trip?
A lot of people don’t realize this: booking through me usually costs you nothing extra.
Because of how travel advising works, the perks come at no cost to you. A room upgrade when one’s available, breakfast included, a credit waiting at check-in, a little priority where it counts. The price is the same as booking it yourself, and you get me handling the details and watching your back.
It can be as small as one hotel or as big as an entire itinerary. If a letter sparks something and you’d like to go, just reach out and I’ll take it from there. And if you only ever read along for the ideas, that’s wonderful too. No pressure, no catch. The full services live at golddusttravel.com.
Come along
That’s it. Subscribe, read along, and let the ideas find you every couple of weeks. When one of them turns into a trip you actually want to take, you’ll know where to find me.
So glad you’re here.
